In Brief, about Epidermal Layer
Stratum Basale (Germinativum): Site of all epithelial mitotic activity (contains melanocyte, Keratenocyte and other specialized cells). Least cytodifferentiated. Cuboidal to Low columnar in shape.

Stratum Spinosum: Spinous (Prickle Cell) Layer.
Cells have peripheral cytoplasmic process. Langerhans cells often extended into this layer.

Stratum Granulosum: Cells Appear flattened and may contain Keratohyalin granule. Organelles are diminished.

Stratum Lucidum:  Clear cell layer found only in thick skin. Cells appear flattened with few organelles.

Stratum Corneum: Keratinized cell layer.
Cell appear flattened and pyknotic with few organelles.
